Geiger Key is about 10 miles from Key West and is partly sheltered by Saddlehill Key. Saddlehill is the large island in the distance in the photos. The bar is frequented by all manner of dogs. I guess they have been banished from downtown by the notorious cats and are hiding out here to avoid any conflicts:) The three rigs between us and the seawall all left yesterday and we inherated a fablous view of the tiki hut, mangroves and the small boat channel. The channel is only about 25 feet wide and it winds around past the hundreds of islets that abound in this area. Most of the water is only 2-3 feet deep and large areas become exposed at high tide.

Fort Desoto and St Pete Beach

Aaaaah! youcan almost hear it sizzle. The last two are of the main armament at the old fort. The #4 is at 2005's best beach. I'm not sure what happened in 2004 0r 2006 or....... #'s 2 &3 are from the rotating restaurant atop of what I am sure was a former Holiday Inn in St Pete Beach. What a view! A person could get used to this! Say, I've nowhere special to go. Hmmmmm...

Fort Desoto lagoon.

What a view! This is our campsite at the Fort Desosto park just on the southern edge of St Petersburg, Fl. The fort itself was built to defend Tampa Bay from the Spanish during the Spanish American War and sits just a mile south of here. We are off for a boat ride. Stay tuned.

18 Hours to Go

This is week five of retirement. Smile. yawn, stretch, and smile again.

As you can see we are locked and loaded and from the visual evidence we will probably not be doing much walking:) We depart at 7:30 tomorrow for our first stop at Santee, SC . From there we will go to Ocala and an RV show on Friday and Saturday then on to Fort De Soto in St Petersburg for two glorious weeks. We may even get our canoe into the water. Then off to Key West, Palm Beach, Okeechobee, St Augustine, Hilton Head and Huntsville. Is this living or what!

My Allegheny and Shenandoah Railroad is progressing. The hand laid track at Lawn Knob is moving along slowly. This is the logging site that will be serviced by a very cool pair of Shay locomotives and is also the highest point on the railroad, just above the Needmore tunnels. A few more hours of spiking rail to the ties and it will be done - a few more hours that will not happen any time soon. Stay tuned, I promise the photos from Fort De Soto will be great.
