Hearst Castle

The Castle is a wonderful estate complete with an airstrip long enough for a DC3. The kitchen is huge so is the wine cellar. In the Prohibition era the alcohol was stored in safe like rooms to keep them away from the T men. The guest library was stocked with 4600 new books and had a special sound dampening ceiling. Hearst has his own hydro electric plant and had more bathrooms than bedrooms all equipped with showers, flush toilets and sinks at a time when all of the locals were still using outhouses and kerosene lamps..

Morro Bay

Morro Bay is one of our favorite places. Otters abound and the small harbor is more than adequately protected by their signature rock.

Tehachapi

There is an overlook with a great view of the entire loop. Upgrade is to the right of the top photo and to the left of the tunnel in the lower shot. The downgrade part of the loop in just in front of the small hill in the upper left center of the top picture.

Zion Campground

You don't have to venture very far to appreciate the scenery of Zion. We stayed at a campground associated with the Quality Inn right in the heart of Springdale that sits adjacent to the south entrance to the park. We have the Virgin river at the rear of the park and several massive signature Zion rock formations right across from the entrance. The local adventure company sponsors tubing in the river so from time to time you can see dozens of yellow tubes bobbing down the river filled with soaking wet victims:)

Zion

Zion National Park is another gem of the west. The rock formations are awesome. No parking, no driving on the canyon bottom road, lots of congestion, but a truly wonderful little town with lots of small restaurants with outstanding food.

Ruby's Inn Campground

Our campground at Bryce was in a nice area with a beautiful view of the nearby pond.

Rainbow Point

Bryce Canyon just keeps on giving. Rainbow point is the far southern reach of the pavement (also the far upward reach of the pavement). The bottom photo reportedly shows Zion, Lake Mead, Arizona and maybe even Mexico. Just exactly where any of those might be is anyone's guess.

The Arches of Bryce Canyon

Arches National Park does not have a monopoly on arches as this one from Bryce Canyon proves. Very nice.

Bryce Canyon

Beauty to the left of me, beauty to the right of me, beauty below me, beauty, beside me, just too beautiful for words.
