Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

This canyon is near Montrose of the Denver and Rio Grande fame. That brown stain is the river several thousand feet below our feet. June  is one of a handful of months where sunlight actually reaches the canyon floor. The picture above Pati is the signature of volcanic rock being forced through narrow crevices at a time when this area was formed. Hard to believe the D&RGW narrow gauge actually ran through the canyon to Cimarron Creek where it exited the canyon on its way to Cimarron and Montrose.
